Logic of 3D Web-Configurator

Summary

This project delivers a backend system that enables the customer to have a working 3D web configurator. The system takes into account the requirements of an existing UI/UX concept and the customer's product catalogue, which places high demands on a flexible, hence generic solution.

Keywords

Product Configurator, Configuration System, Configuration Logic

Goal

The goal is to create a software architecture and to design a configuration logic in the backend, which meets the requirements of the UI/UX concept as well as the requirements of the customer. The main focus is on achieving a reasonable execution time for complex configurations, ensuring compatibility with the customer's product range and facilitating easy adaptation of the configuration logic.

Initial Position

The customer's new sales order process required both a new UI/UX concept for product configuration and a software architecture to support this concept in terms of functionality.

This project builds directly on a previous project that used a design-first approach to flesh out the UI/UX concept. As a continuation of this work, the current project is based on a literature review of configuration systems and an analysis of the customer's product range.

Results

The knowledge gained led to the realisation that a generic approach to the backend of the configurator is the optimal solution to flexibly address current and future functional requirements. The chosen solution has proven its suitability and provides a solid foundation for future implementations.
