The RFO Baden takes over command when there are incidents that require communication and coordination between multiple emergency services such as the police and fire department. Our product helps the RFO Baden to maintain an overview of the current state of an incident and aids them in making quick and decisive decisions. The simplicity of our tool allows the RFO Baden to work more efficiently and therefore prevent potential further damage or casualties.
For more than a decade, the RFO Baden has used an outdated web tool to handle incidents. However, this tool is no longer state of art and has security issues. Due to its unclear workflow and poorly designed user interface, incidents cannot be resolved efficiently. This wastes a lot of time and often creates confusion. Rather than reworking the old tool, the RFO Baden decided that a new application would be the ideal solution.
Like its predecessor, the new Incident Manager is a web-based tool that allows access from anywhere, provided an internet connection is available. It provides fast and interactive access to all the information of an incident being processed by the RFO Baden and its partners. Many problems have been solved by ensuring speed, reliability, and security. The tool was developed from the ground up for the RFO Baden and their workflow which is based of processes defined by the government. It can be used anywhere, whether in the office or in the field and most importantly can still be used in the case of a country wide power outage as the RFO Baden has its own network that is hooked up to a diesel generator. Incidents can be prioritized and categorized in a specific way, which helps the RFO Baden and its partners to know what needs to be done, by whom and when. In addition, the tool includes various ways to examine archived incidents from the past.
"I was able to briefly present the IM tool to all civil defense commanders in the canton of Aargau.
It has been met with very great interest and several organizations are interested in the product and its
further development."
The Incident Manager is now available at https://im.rfobaden.ch/
The project lasted two semesters (IP3 and IP4). Our team consists of seven members, each of whom invested around 360 hours in the project.
