Our team's main goal was to improve the user experience of the game and to provide to the client a more professional educational tool.
After a long testing phase of the first prototype "Bloxxgame 1.0," Prof. Dr. Walter Dettling, blockchain specialist at FHNW, decided to completely revise the current implementation. The first iteration of the game lacked a consistent, intuitive user interface, easy scalability and a solid code base, which was necessary for future extensibility and maintenance.
A clean and uniform Bloxxgame 2.0 user interface reduces information overload, thus allowing students to better grasp abstract blockchain concepts. Furthermore, the newly introduced drag-and-drop functions allow students to focus on the dataflow within the game. Improved session management, persistency of data and easier registration benefit both students and instructors.
The project team succeeded in creating a clean and uniform user interface that reduces information overload for students by showing only the information relevant to the current game mode. The introduction of drag and drop resulted in a more intuitive gaming experience by enabling the players to interact with the game's components and mimic the dataflow themselves. By this, Bloxxgame 2.0 makes the abstract concept of the blockchain even more graspable and intuitive to use for teachers as well as for students. Moreover the provided source code was built on top of state-of-the-art software libraries and well-implemented custom solutions, which provides a strong foundation for future developments.
The project had a duration of two semesters (IP3 and IP4). Our team consisted of six people, and each member invested about 360 hours in the project.
