Self-Assessment Youth App

Summary
The Self-Assessment Youth App is a mobile application, which allows young people with mental illnesses to evaluate their resources without having to manually fill in paper forms.
Key terms
Target platforms iOS (iPhone) and Android
Database Floor/SQL database (local on device)
Code language Dart
Framework Flutter
Project goal
Young people with mental illnesses often are not aware of their own strengths and resources. To date the caregiver worked with paper forms, which were filled out by the children/young adults. The caregivers then would evaluate the resources of the child based on the answers given on the paper form. For both the young people and the caregivers, this is no longer a contemporary solution. Not only is it time-consuming, as the caregivers need to manually evaluate the assessments, but also it is not very attractive to young people to fill in long paper-based assessments.

The application addresses the issues mentioned above. The vision of the application is to offer the young people a more attractive way to fill in assessments to independently discover their resources.
Initial situation
Until now, young people had to manually fill in paper forms with questions about their current feelings. These paper forms are black and white only, static/not interactive and therefore not very inviting to fill out. Both caregiver and youth had to wait on one another, causing delays in getting these youth more immediate and independent help.
Benefits of our solution
The application built solves both the issues mentioned above. It offers the user an inviting, colorful user interface with state-of-the art and easy-to-understand input possibilities, specifically built for the purpose of the assessment of young people with mental health issues.

It allows youths in need to automatically get suggestions based on their answers in real-time. There is no need for any professional to be present to complete these tasks manually.
Results
The application fully replaces the so-called full-assessment and offers new features such as the possibility to fill in shorter assessments on a regular basis.

Additionally, it builds a stable foundation for a further expansion.

Core features implemented:
  • Attractive navigation with "positive feedback"
  • Attractive input possibilities
  • Fill in full assessments
  • Fill in regular (shorter) assessments
  • Automated evaluations
  • Automated suggestions
  • Viewable results from previous assessments
