What do you think, dear developer? - A Feedback-Driven Approach for better software development

Keywords

Agile software development, productivity, happiness, self-reporting.
Java / Spring Boot, React / Next, Typescript, postgreSQL, Auth.js, CI/CD.

Objective

The IP6 project aimed to address the challenge of improving software development productivity by conducting a comprehensive analysis, including interviewing agile team members. The insights gained from this analysis were then used to develop a practical application. Our research was guided by three key questions that guided the approach we took:

- What is the current understanding of productivity in agile software development?
- What specific productivity metrics are critical and essential to assess team performance and individual contribution in the different phases of agile iteration?
- What functionalities must a user-centred software solution include to increase the productivity of agile teams?

Project Overview

yappi - Where Productivity Meets Happiness

Through our interviews, it became clear that the most frequently mentioned productivity boosters and blockers were closely linked to personal and team happiness.Recent studies further emphasize that personal happiness plays a critical role in team dynamics and daily collaboration in agile environments.

The productivity of software developers is critical to the success of software projects, yet a deep understanding of the influencing factors is often lacking.

yappi addresses this gap by tracking and analyzing developers’ happiness levels. Through feedback mechanisms, we facilitate a sustainable improvement in both productivity and satisfaction within agile teams. Insights from the happiness data collected in yappi allow you to optimize your daily work routine. Moreover, you can use these insights to compare your patterns and code contributions with your team’s, identify trends and find areas for collective improvement.
