Impact Analysis Dashboard

Summary

This thesis presents a solution of the complexities associated with isualizing relationships.

Keywords

Angular, Docker, Dashboard, Neo4j, Jira, Bitbucket

Objective

The goal of the project is to develop a dashboard that allows users to view the relationships between Jira tasks and code blocks to improve quality assurance and minimize bugs by clearly showing the impact of code changes on other areas of the application. This will help improve quality assurance and minimize bugs by making it clear what impact changes the code could have on other areas of the application. It is important to note that we will display data that is being created by an application being developed by another group of people in our school. The relationships and dependencies between issues will be given to us through that application. Our project aims to visualize these relationships and the relevant information.

Problem statement

The main problem that this project aims to address is the potential for costly software bugs, troubleshooting, and patching due to incomplete or insufficient task creation, code changes, and code/database cleanup. When creating a task, it is essential to consider all dependencies and craft comprehensive acceptance criteria to minimize the risk of introducing bugs. Additionally, developers may struggle to understand the purpose of certain methods and functions when making code changes, leading to potential errors. Finally, without proper documentation, code and database cleanup may result in the deletion of critical components, causing bugs and requiring further troubleshooting and patching.

Results

During our research we discovered that there were solutions to visualizing relationships between functions and visualizing relationships between issues. However, there does not seem to exist any viable solution to displaying relationships between functions and issues. Through our dashboard we remedy that. Our solution provides a clear and intuitive way of analyzing the project’s source code and issues. The evaluation and our comparison with the Atlassian Suite provided a valuable benchmark, ensuring a realistic and balanced evaluation. Through our evaluation we discovered that our solution provides a way of showing relationships, that may otherwise not be discovered through traditional means. Furthermore, we’ve discovered that certain tasks can be sped up through our dashboard. Also, we were able to conclude, that our solution provides a way of interpreting less relationships wrongly. Overall, the evaluation findings underscore the importance of well-defined metrics and comparative analysis in assessing software tools. The Impact Analysis Dashboard has demonstrated its potential to enhance understanding of task and code dependencies, yet the evaluation also suggests avenues for further refinement and optimization. This research contributes to the broader field of software development, emphasizing the need for continuous innovation and rigorous evaluation to meet the evolving demands of the industry. It has to be stated, that the full impact our dashboard can have in a development process cannot be determined by this thesis out of time constraints.
