Virtual NeuroLab: Assessing a patients' neurological function using virtual reality

Summary

The project simulates a customized version of a medical examination, generates data from that examination, and visualizes it.

Keywords

VR, Data generation, Unity

Goal

The goal is to demonstrate the potential of VR technology in the medical field, create a user-friendly application that replicates a medical examination and generates and visualize data

Initial position

The use of computer technology has brought about significant changes in the field of medicine. However, many diagnoses are still made through direct interactions between patients and doctors. These diagnoses are based on observation, experience, and intuition. This can lead to imprecise assessments and a lack of definitive conclusions in some cases.

Virtual Reality and its features, such as hand tracking, eye tracking or facial tracking, have the potential to modernize medicine in a similar way to how computers once did.

To showcase this potential to a wider audience, initial projects are needed that establish a connection between medicine and Virtual Reality. This work aims to be one of these projects, striving to create such a connection.

Results

During the examination, data is generated and visualized. Differences among various users can be identified, and initial observations can be made as a result. Additionally, knowledge regarding the utilized technology has been acquired, which can be applied to future projects.
