Automatization of repetitive routine grocery shopping

Repetitive online grocery shopping is a key activity in many households, but the process often becomes tedious, repetitive, and time consuming. This project focuses on addressing these challenges by exploring innovative solutions to reduce time spent and boost overall satisfaction.

Initial situation

Online grocery shopping has become an essential part of life for many people. It offers convenience and accessibility, allowing people to fit shopping into their busy schedules without visiting physical stores. However, while online shopping simplifies access to products, it has not yet fully addressed the unique needs of shoppers who frequently purchase the same items. As the demand for online shopping continues to grow, there is a clear opportunity to better tailor the experience to this specific user group.

Project goal

Frequent shoppers often find themselves repeating the same steps in each order, which can lead to frustration and inefficiency. The challenge is to make the online shopping process more intuitive, less repetitive, and better aligned with the needs of these users. This project seeks to identify key areas for improvement through user research and to develop a solution that reduces effort, saves time, and enhances overall satisfaction.

Grocery Package Manager

FHNW

In the Grocery Package Manager users can create and manage customized grocery packages.

Package Creation Process

FHNW

In the package creation process, users can name their package and then browse all products available and add the ones needed to the bundle. The design and interactions are close to the ones used when managing the regular item cart.

Package Detail View

FHNW

In the package detail view users can see an overview of the items included in a specific package. Users can see the name, quantity, and details of each product in the bundle. From this view, items can be added or removed, and the package can be renamed or updated to match changing needs.

Grocery Package Usage

FHNW

In the shopping process, users can add their grocery packages to the shopping cart with just one click. Instead of manually selecting individual items, users simply choose their desired package from the list, and all the included products are instantly added to the cart.

Solution developed and its benefits

To tackle the inefficiencies faced by repetitive grocery shoppers, we have developed an innovative feature that allows users to create and manage customizable product packages. These bundles act as collections of products, designed to simplify the shopping experience. Instead of adding individual products to the cart for every order, users can now save time by creating predefined bundles that suit their regular needs. Users can create bundles for different purposes, such as "Weekly Essentials," "Snacks and Beverages," or "Cleaning Supplies," ensuring that all their needs are covered efficiently. This feature is especially valuable for users who frequently order the same products, as it eliminates the need to search for and select items individually.

  • Create personalized grocery packages.
  • Option to edit and manage bundles as preferences change over time.
  • Add Packages to the cart with a single click, saving a significant amount of time.
  • Improved satisfaction by minimizing effort and cognitive load.

The grocery package feature represents a significant step forward in optimizing the online grocery shopping experience. By focusing on personalization and automation, it addresses the key pain points of repetitive shoppers and turns the process into a seamless, enjoyable activity. This innovation is designed to save time, enhance user satisfaction, and foster a more engaging shopping experience.
