The FHNW ADNI Explorer is a dashboard showcasing student projects from FHNW that utilized the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) dataset.
Python, Plotly, Dash, SQLite
The creation of a dashboard about ADNI projects completed at FHNW aims to provide insights into the explored data and the resulting findings. Including visualizations can help in making connections between the results of the different projects and potentially even lead to new discoveries.
The Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) is a longitudinal study to track the progression of
Alzheimer’s Disease using biomarkers. The goal of ADNI is to identify indicators from these biomarkers,
which help to support the prevention, early detection, and treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease.
The interface of the ADNI database is not user-friendly. Therefore, it is tough to access the data and
getting familiar with it. Acquiring sufficient knowledge to start a new project on the ADNI database can be
very time-consuming. Several student projects at FHNW have explored the ADNI database. Each project has
researched different hypotheses and therefore used different subsets of the ADNI data. This makes it
challenging to identify which research has already been performed, if connections between them can be made
and which areas call for deeper exploration.
The 'FHNW ADNI Explorer' dashboard is a dynamic tool designed for students starting with their ADNI projects and people interested in the student ADNI data projects at FHNW. It is a user-friendly web application that allows users to get an overview of the different projects by exploring Jupyter notebooks and various datasets that were used in the student projects. Additionally, users can gain a deeper understanding of the project contents by reading the project reports and navigating through the visualizations. The FHNW ADNI Explorer offers an insight into different analytical processes, code implementations and data manipulations that student teams have used during their ADNI project.
