Visual Analytics for Heating Systems

Zusammenfassung

Plutinsus provides a sophisticated web application designed for the comprehensive analysis of various heating systems, leveraging primarily temperature data collected from multiple points within the system. This interface is primarily tailored for industry professionals with a profound understanding of heating systems. Notably, a novel user interface design has been implemented, expanding accessibility to individuals with limited familiarity in heating systems, ensuring a broader user base for the application.

Zielsetzung

The goal of this project is to develop a user interface for the Plutinsus web application that is accessible to users with limited knowledge of heating systems. The interface should guide the user through the analysis process and help them to understand the system and its problems. The interface should be intuitive and easy to use for users with limited knowledge of heating systems.

Ausgangslage

The web application provided by Plutinsus for the analysis of heating system operations has significantly expanded over time. Originally designed to include 3-4 diagrams, it now comprises more than 50. As complexity has heightened, so too has the level of expertise necessary for proficient usage of the web application. A comprehensive understanding of both the system and the application now then never demands a background in engineering.

Ergebnisse

A user interface has been developed that makes the structure of a complex physical system visible and supports the users in asking the right questions to come to a clear understanding of what is wrong and needs to be fixed.

The new interface displays the structure of the system visually to help the users orient themselves as well as navigate to the relevant next step. This structure is first determined by the functions that need to work together for the system to reach its goals, then by the components needed to perform the necessary functions, and then by the relevant questions for each component.

The interface does not take the approach of first displaying the data and then expecting the user to formulate their questions, but instead was developed to show the questions that are relevant for the use case. Like this, the user has the context for why a variable is relevant.
