Simple 3D scanning of LED decorations using smartphone cameras.

To develop and demonstrate a method for scanning LED decorations using a simple smartphone camera and creating 3D models that can be used for animations. The goal is to achieve this through a user-friendly method that is both innovative and accessible to a wide audience - as well as not requiring the installation of software.
The general idea has been proven to work by prior work (Matt Parker's christmas tree) - but is too slow and tedious to be usable by the public in a plug-and-play product.
A functional workflow for 3D scanning of LED decorations was developed. The primary innovation lies in the high scanning speed & automatic stabilization for hand shakiness, allowing for the scanning of 200 LEDs in just 1 to 4 minutes. The system is user-friendly, compatible with most standard smartphones, and doesn't require a camera stand. Server-side computation ensures consistent processing speed across various devices, and the high precision of the scans enables the creation of attractive 3D animations on the LEDs.
