Medical Examinations in Virtual Reality through Hand Tracking

Summary

We have built a vr-application which uses hand tracking technologies to support examination in the medical sectors. Because of a NDA, the given information is limited

Keywords

C#, Unity, VR-Application, UltraLeap SDK

Goal

This product should primarily communicate the idea that the data that is being gathered in virtual reality can be of use for medical tests. Furthermore, it enables the possibility of executing remote examinations of patients which in turn saves time. This project should convince medical staff of the many potential use cases in virtual reality that can be used in their specific field

Initial Position

In order to streamline the whole examination process and to enable examiner to perform the examinations remotely, this project aims to deliver a virtual reality software package, in which patients can undergo various testing procedures in a virtual world without needing to be present at the examiner’s office. Using state of the art gamification und UX design principles, users should be able to perform simple and intuitive examination exercises in an unobstructed, uncluttered and soothing environment using modern virtual reality devices and hand tracking technology.

Results

It has been shown that hand tracking can be used for several medical tests. The hand tracking feature itself has turned out to be a very versatile feature and offers many possibilities. However, the project still needs further development to convince medical staff that it can be actively used.
