Biosonah & organic products from and for local communities

Biosonah is revolutionizing e-commerce for rural and underserved communities by introducing an innovative platform that streamlines access to sustainable, affordable organic products.

Initial Situation

In many rural and underserved areas, it is difficult for organic stores to stay afloat, while supermarkets drive up the prices of sustainable products, making them unaffordable for thrifty consumers. However, Biosonah fills this gap for consumers and local producers by supporting both existing and aspiring vendors of organic products. Currently, all processes linked to collective purchases are managed manually with the help of a laborious Excel system. Making it a very difficult task for Biosonah to meet the increasing interest in and demand for collective purchasing, resulting in Biosonah not being able to scale up its business under the system currently in use.
To solve this problem, a digital solution with automated processes is needed to enable Biosonah to keep providing rural areas with access to organic products.

Project Goal

The primary goal is to create an e-commerce platform to replace Biosonah's current system, thereby modernizing its operations and providing customers with a consistent online shopping experience while eliminating dependence on Excel. Additionally, this initiative aims to increase customer fulfillment by simplifying the ordering process, streamlining administrative tasks, and providing a user-friendly interface for convenient browsing and shopping.

Developed Solution and its benefit

The e-commerce platform is built to provide customers with a seamless experience while shopping online, offering an intuitive product catalog for easier navigation and ordering. The features implemented include:

  • Efficient filtering and sorting of products by category
  • Integration with the intermediary Supplier database for instant access to a wide range of products with detailed information and images
  • Calendar function to track order deadlines and ensure prompt transmission and delivery
  • Robust administration functions for comprehensive control of the online store, including order monitoring, product management and stock control

In addition, the platform updates its products and prices daily to ensure that customers have access to accurate and up-to-date information for their purchasing decisions. With these improvements, the e-commerce platform aims to streamline the customer shopping experience and optimize operational efficiency.

Testemonial
"The decision to start our first digitisation step as project with the FHNW was ideal. The students did an impressive job by immediately familiarising themselves with the problem and looking for solutions. Their support and communication are excellent and we really enjoy working with them. This collaboration has taken our project to a new level and put us on course to achieve our goals."
