PocketBalloon
Switzerland's first realtime balloon race simulation
Problem Statement
For generations, we have enjoyed sending colorful helium balloons in flight at weddings and other events as a type of competition.
But they pose a significant environmental concern due to the detrimental impact of balloon remnants and associated
pollution.
To address this issue, our project team received the opportunity by Aargau Tourismus to develop a web
based realtime balloon race simulation.
Project Goal
The objective of this project is to convert our beloved balloon races into a fun and engaging digital simulation. This allows people to take part in environmental friendly balloon races.
Race Registration
Upon opening PocketBalloon, users are required to register to participate in a balloon race event. To confirm their email address, users are sent a code which they must enter into PocketBalloon.
Balloon Customization
Participants can now create a custom design and name for their personal racing balloon. First, they can choose from various balloon colors, patterns, and pattern colors. Then, a random name for the balloon is generated, which can be rerolled until the participants are satisfied
Balloon Launch
To launch the balloon, participants must fill it up. However, they should be cautious as it could explode unexpectedly.
Participant Dashboard
Once the event has started, participants can observe the current position of their balloon as well as live weather information on the dashboard. Additionally, there is a short summary about the location below the balloon's current position.
Post Race Overview
After the race event is finished, participants are presented with an overview that lists all the statistics for their individual balloon and displays its flight path.
Developed Solution and its benefit
With PocketBalloon we have created an ecofriendly real time balloon race simulation using
live weather
data.
The organizer can create races and users are able to participate. Each participant can
customize their balloon, fill it with air and send it straight to the sky!
The live position of the balloon and details about the
region below can be observed at any time.
