Besmarth is a mobile Application for iOS and Android that helps people to learn about a sustainable lifestyle in an easy and enjoyable way through participation in sustainability challenges. Sustainability challenges are specific behavioral tasks that can be performed periodically over a period of time to protect the environment.
Our goal was to get a stable version of the app with a better user experience. Users can interact with friends along with the besmarth community to motivate each other to lead a sustainable lifestyle to keep our planet clean and healthy. Future users are able to share their own ideas and contribute to the app.
Besmarth is an open source application that was started by FHNW computer science students in 2019. The application was in the midst of the development process. They had gathered feedback from usability tests to continue the development. At that time we overtook the project.
We added several features to the application. Besmarth is now a place where a community can share their experiences. People can add new challenges so that others can access and rate them. We did a redesign of the whole application and improved the UX a lot. The navigation concept is easy to understand and intuitive. Furthermore, the software architecture is improved so that it is easy for the open-source community to extend the application.
We have revised the graphical design. We have implemented the possibility to create personalized challenges for everyone. To grow the community we offer the users the opportunity to express their opinions and tips and also to invite friends. The alpha-version is deployed on besmarth.ch and testable for everyone.
