Augmented Reality IoT Visualizer

Summary

Using Augmented Reality to visualize sensor data.

Keywords

C#, Unity, Vuforia, AR

Ausgangslage

This project was commissioned by the Empa. Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, is a research institute of the ETH domain located in Dübendorf, Zurich. They conduct materials and technology research. The focus of this project lies on the NEST (Next Evolution in Sustainable Building Technologies) building

Goal

The goal of this project was to create an Augmented Reality application which visualizes the given data from NEST in a textual and/or graphical manner (e.g. line graph). How this could be achieved was open to the project team, there was a big focus on the research of solutions itself.

Results

The research showed that the technology is in some ways still in its infancy. Using photos to de-tect an object can sometimes lead to not being able to detect it unless standing exactly in the position the photo was taken. Using generated so-called markers is better because they are made to satisfy all requirements the detection uses. In the future the technology could be used to detect models by using a 3D model.
